Best Beaches in Croatia: A Tourist’s Guide

When it comes to the best beaches in Croatia, there is a first and foremost thing that a foreign visitor should know. And that is that few of Croatia’s best beaches are sandy. In most cases, Croatia’s finest beaches are of smooth pebbles and rocks. There are still exceptions to this, though, like the Bacvice in Split. But even that particular beach had someone dump sand from somewhere to make it more convenient for beach-goers.

Let’s face it…

it is easier for people to play and lie on the sand. What you will witness in this country has been here for thousands of years. And also keep in mind that there are a wide variety of these beaches that you can marvel at. There are beaches which resound absolute peace and tranquillity. Others best fit for those who come as a family, where they can put their toddlers in their very own play-spots under that sun. There are some wherein the background noise is the sound of bars and cafes. On the contrary, others showcase just the sound of peaceful waves. What should we expect from the best beaches in Croatia, then?

Best Beaches in Croatia: Expectations

Don’t expect sophisticated and high-class facilities around these beaches. Most of them are just plain simple, where it’s just a couple of cafes at most. There aren’t a lot of towels and changing rooms that you can expect. However, the beaches which are near the hotels do have concrete platform in them. This is where you can lay your towels on or dry off easily. When you go to the main towns and the biggest resorts, you can find standard shops for your convenience. In fact, you can even find restaurants perfect for that obligatory Instagram post you need to share.

There are instances wherein a beach will be the place to be when you’re talking about nightclubs. However, it is not safe to assume that Croatia’s coastline us built up just yet. Let me break it down for you here guys: Croatia depends a lot on their tourism. At the same time, most of their tourism is defined by the quality of their beaches. Today, we are going to showcase and highlight those beaches that are the best (as far as I’m concerned) Croatia has to offer. Are you ready? Let’s dig in then, shall we?

Spiaza, Susak

Best Beaches In Croatia

Are you looking for that desert island getaway in Croatia you’ve always dreamed of? Well then this is definitely the place to be. One of the best beaches in Croatia, it doesn’t get any better than on Susak guys. For those of you that don’t know, Susak is a very small island in Croatia that is composed almost entirely of sand. All you need to do is to take that ferry ride from Mali Lošinj, which by the way is quite a significant distance from the mainland if you ask me. This is also the reason why going to Susak makes it that more worthwhile at the same time fulfilling.

Susak’s main beach which is called Spiaza, is a majestic one. It is a moon-grey crescent stretching that stretches out from Susak. The bay, though, is very shallow. You still need to walk a good half a kilometre so that you can be able to swim in deep waters.

There is also another place that is located further east that you should take note of. And that is what they call Bok bay. It is just as sandy as Spiaza is, however with lesser people. Why is this? Well, it’s because you have to walk around and over a headland just so you can get there.

Zlatni Rat, Brač

Best Beaches In Croatia

Whenever I look at Zlatni Rat, I am in absolute awe. This beach takes your breath away to say the least. All you can do really when you see it is be like, WOW!

There is a reason why this beach is arguably Croatia’s best beach, and it’s not just limited to its home country. For those of you that don’t know, this beach has also won numerous awards as one of the best beaches in the world. Yes, Zlatni Rat is internationally-acclaimed, ladies and gentlemen.

Zlatni Rat is characterized mainly as a long and golden pebble beach. What’s cool about this beach is that it changes shape, which is mostly influenced or caused by currents as well as overcoming winds. Zlatni Rat can be found in a place called Bol. Furthermore, it overlooks the beautiful Hvar island. When you talk about picture perfect beaches, this is definitely one at the top of anyone’s list. It is lined with pine trees which are a sight to see. Lastly, this beach connects with the mesmerizing Adriatic Sea. This, this is definitely a perfect combination if you are looking for that once in a lifetime Croatian beach experience.

Bačvice, Split

Best Beaches In Croatia

For most of Split’s inhabitants and native dwellers, this place is not actually that much of a city as a religion. Split is right in between a group of semi-mystic locations. With that being said, one of whom many consider as a holy of hollies in the land of Split is in fact the Bačvice beach. It is a shallow baby composed mainly of sand as well as pebbles and stones. What’s so great about this beach is its impact and influence it has over people. I am talking about its role in the childhood and adolescent years of the native dwellers of Split.

This beach is one of those popular ones particularly for the families who go beaching. You can find a pavilion rising to the east that is packed with cafes, perfect for the social beings in our society.

And lastly, well, here is a fun fact for you guys. Bačvice is popular as it is considered as the home of the sport they call picigin. This is a Dalmatian sport and it requires tons and tons of acrobatic moves. Why? Well, the main objective of the game is that the players involved need to do their best in preventing the ball from ever hitting the water. Sounds like a lot of fun eh? It’s no wonder why this is one of the best beaches in Croatia.

Lovrecina Bay, Brac Island

Best Beaches In Croatia

This particular beach is more or less four kilometres away from Postira. If you are looking for that true beach vibe, one that you can call paradise, this is the place to be guys. What is so breathtaking about this place is that the sea, well, it’s translucent blue in color. There are olive groves and old church ruins that surround the area of the beach. This definitely makes for some surreal feeling of like being in heaven, almost. Let me just say it in a different way—it’s like heaven here on earth guys.

You have to take not though that this is not the easiest beach that you can get to. Additionally there are not bus stops that would take you directly to the location. What’s even worse is that there’s not much in the way of parking. Talk about difficult guys.

With that being said, if by chance you are able to get there in which it is absolutely doable, you are in for the time of your life. Because the beach is hard to get to, you can be sure that there are little to no people. Not only that but you literally have the beach all to yourselves (whether you’re flying solo, with a buddy, or with a group). Oh and did I mention that there are quality restaurants near the area? Told you this is heaven here on earth.

Stiniva Beach, Vis

Best Beaches In Croatia

The island of Vis has, over the years, become more and more attractive and popular with the tourists. Thus making it one of the best beaches in Croatia. The reason for this because the island is a go-to destination where there aren’t a lot of what we call “summer crowds.” Alright, so if Lovrecina Bay was a stretch to visit, all the more is Stiniva beach. Be ready to put in a little work, as you will be descending a goat track just for you to get to this place. For those of you who are lucky enough to have a boat, there is another way. You can actually pass through the rocky Stivina gate itself. It is then there that you are greeted with its stone grounds. I don’t know about you, but Stivina beach is as magical as it can get. It’s like you’re even entering a new world when you pass by its stony gates.
